The village of Stigliano, clearly of medieval origin, has maintained its origin consists of three groups of buildings with adjoining houses: the Poggiarello, Poggio and the Palace.
Some of the houses would need destauro while others have become holiday homes and hotels or inhabited by a few residents. On the north side of the village stands the high crenellated tower with archer piombatoio. The remains of the wall give an idea of how much of the castle was importanre in the distant past.
Next to the tower, a medieval house has retained two mullioned windows of stilr gotico.Purtroppo this house, in the eighteenth century, it was transformed to host a breeding silkworms. A few meters away a large house fourteenth preserves two arcades, one of which with elegant octagonal columns.
On the south side of the village survives another tower with base shoe, louvers and hoarding.
In the twelfth century Stigliano was a rich country, which was the property of Ardengheschi, then passed to the Republic of Siena, the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala in 1504 and finally was plundered by the troops of Charles V. From this time it began a slow decline.
